Classic Motorcycles Newcastle

Classic Motorcycles is on Westgate Hill in Newcastle, the centre of the local motorcycle community. It is a family business run by Grahame Craggs, who set it up with his father back in 1981. Grahame himself has motorbikes of his own that he loves to ride. Since being a teenager, he has always ridden Classic British motorcycles, even when his friends were buying the faster Japanese, German and Italian models. He has years of expertise in finding the right part to get your motorcycle back on the road again.

We opened 40 years ago, and we sell complete motorcycles, new and used components and associated genuine accessories from helmets, goggles and gloves to manuals and magazines. Back then, most of the shops on Westgate Hill sold motorcycles, parts or accessories, and the hill was a very noisy place. Times have moved on. We are now one of the few remaining motorcycle businesses here – but little has changed inside our shop, which is a unique and fascinating building. It used to be a private cinema, and the auditorium is now full of motorcycles and parts. We specialise in British motorcycles and parts, but we are interested in anything old and mechanical, and we have other motorcycles and scooters, aeroplane engines, cameras  and clocks.

As well as supplying motorcycles and parts, we undertake renovation, repairs and specialist restoration work, including wheel building and chrome plating. We have specialist tools such as a cradle for wheelbuilding, and a machine for threading bespoke spokes.

We send parts all over the world. We believe in keeping history on the road, and will do our best to help you identify what you need to have your own Classic motorcycle, or to keep yours in good repair. We believe in re-using and recycling wherever possible, and the majority of our spares are used, although we can obtain new ones where necessary.

We will consider hiring motorcycles and parts for displays or filming, and allowing these unique premises to be used for filming or photoshoots.
